What were you trying to do?

I have been using VUI from the Andrew package to read my mail
when remotely logged in. (I use the X-windows version called Messages
when in an Athena cluster.) No matter where I am logging in from it
is running on the pasta servers, which I think are DECstations. The
version of VUI is 3.70. The problem relates to the Read command when
inside a folder.

What's wrong:

Most messages read fine. However, certain messages are piped through
to the 'more' command instead of being displayed internally by VUI.
On messages which are piped to 'more', if the message is less than
about 1350 bytes it is less than one screenful. Instead of displaying
the message and pausing, with the 'more' message at the bottom of the
screen, it flashes the message on screen for less than a second. On
longer messages I can page through them using the spacebar, but it
flashes the last page for less than a second.

As far as I can tell, the messages which are piped through to 'more'
are the ones with an X-Sender header field, all of which in my case
come from Eudora for Windows. It doesn't seem to have anything to do
with whether there is a Content_type header or if the message as a
Mime version header or not. There is no problems with messages that
are not piped through to 'more'. This problem began after the summer
earlier in the semester. In the past (I have been using VUI and
Messages for about two years) short messages would pause on screen and
wait for me to type a command.

Related to this, the 'more' command has never functioned completely
right when called by VUI. It only recognized the spacebar for paging
forward and the q to return to VUI. 'More' never recognized any of
its reverse direction or search commands.
