Weird kinit (V5) Problem

On Forever (Solaris S5 7.7T) I got this error kiniting:
> kinit mhbraun

Kerberos Initialization for "mhbraun"

mhbraun: KDC reply did not match expectations
On medic (Decstation 7.7O) the error is slightly more verbose:
kinit opuser
MIT Athena (medic)
Kerberos Initialization for "opuser"
Password:
opuser: KDC reply did not match expectations while calling krb5_get_in_tkt_with_password
It gives me valid V4 tickets, however I do not get V5 tickets:
(mhbraun@forever) ~/% attach krb5 ; /mit/krb5/bin/klist

Default principal: mhbraun@ATHENA.MIT.EDU

jhawk noted that if he used the kinit in /mit/krb5/bin (atleast on a sun) he
was able to get V5 tickets.
Has the KDC on fmult been upgraded to a version that is incompatible with what
is in the Athena release ?
Whatever the problem is we probably want to fix it before users come back from
break.
