I'd like to note that gcc has been supported in the gnu locker ("add
gnu") for many months now. Even though gcc is supplied with Linux, it
is sometimes important to have a consistent version of gcc across
several platforms, so I intend to support gcc for Linux in the gnu
locker as long as there are a significant number of Linux machines at
MIT.
If students are using the Cygnus gcc for a class, I think it's
reasonable to expect students using Linux to use the gcc on their
local machines or from the gnu locker, and deal with any differences
themselves.
