What were you trying to do?
Use the backspace key in emacs.
What's wrong:
The old Sun type 5 keyboards and the new Sun type 5/PC
keyboards produce different keysysms for backspace. The
old keyboards produce a "Delete" keysym, while the new
ones produce a "Backspace" keysym. emacs (running in
X mode, with its own window) interprets Backspace as ^H
and displays a help prompt.
What should have happened:
Something consistent, and the backspace key should function
as "delete character to the left of the cursor" on the new
keyboards.
Please describe any relevant documentation references:
To determine whether you're using a Type 5 or Type 5/PC
keyboard, you can use the "xkeycaps" program in the sipb
locker, select Sun Type 5 or Sun Type 5/PC, and see if
the layout (particularly the upper right corner of the
alphabetic keyboard) matches your keyboard.
