Actually, the problem is not that the eq equation editor within EZ will not
accept a subscript after a superscript.

work just fine.
The problem, is in subscripting or superscripting a variable modified with
prime [']. I suspect somewhere the parser is choking on the single quote.
I am sorry that you were inconvenienced by this bug.
I will forward the bug to the maintainers of Andrew. Alas, they have not
fixed any bugs in eq in a very long time.
