Type and version: SPARC/Classic 7.7G
Display type: cgthree
What were you trying to do?
I was using Mosaic, and wanted to download and play a sound.
What's wrong:
It seems that since 7.6, the permissions on /dev/audio have
been changed so that your average user cannot write there:
audioconvert: Error writing to output file (stdout) (Broken pipe)
audioplay: error opening /dev/audio: Permission denied
is the error message generated.
What should have happened:
It should have been able to play the file, I think. Was this
a specific release decision, to disable sound? It will just increase
the number of hacked workstations, I'd say...
