nothing, i got the following error message in my console:
00:26 cp: cannot create /afs/athena.mit.edu/user/m/e/merm/.maillock
00:26 cp: Permission denied
00:26 /usr/athena/zmailnotify: kerberos error: Can't access ticket file (tf_util)

What should have happened:
my .Xresources customized mail notify should have come up in the middle
of the screen.

the problem as diagnosed by yandros courtesy the help zephyr:
a previous user's zwgc process didn't die when they left.
report it with `sendbug' (program zwgc, problems: it didn't die when merm logged out)
sounds about right....this is machine M4-167-6 :18.74.0.90
