You recently reported a bug in tail:
>What were you trying to do?
>tail a file
>
>What's wrong:
>tail doesn't give the correct number of the end of file.
>A sample file that I have trouble with is /mit/gleung/public/apo
>(obtained from zephyr-log in bitbucket)
>e.g.
>tail -300 apo
>tail -400 apo
>tail -500 apo
>all give the same thing
>This is not true in other architectures.
Something you may find enlightening:
tail -300 apo | wc -c
4096
tail -400 apo | wc -c
4096
>Please describe any relevant documentation references:
>Should be a sun problem.
When I see something like this, I check the man page...
The tail command will only tail the last 4096 bytes of a
file regardless of its line count.
Believe it, or don't!
>(Solaris sucks?)
Yup. Sad.
>Please fix this. Tail is an essential unix tool.
We'll get back to you... Thanks for your report!
