Bad news.
It is almost impossible to fix the bug you report.
I agree that it is damned annoying!
The reason why it is so hard to fix is this:
The original authors of EZ decided that the default 12 point font that suff
is printed in was too small when the doc was seen on the screen.
So they hacked the design of ez to print in 12 point font, display in 14
point font, and call the font Andy12.
This means that the tabs you see on the screen are our best guess of
how they will print, but only preview will show you for sure.
CMU tells me they are doing a complete rewrite of the way EZ prints that
will make problems like this go away, but that rewrite won't be done for
a year or two.
Thank you for caring enough to write.
I am sorry that I can't give you a fix right now, or even a guess as to
when that rewrite will happen.
