Sorry I've been so slow to respond; it took me a while to get back to
this.
Running the editres from the build tree
(/mit/x11/build/sun4/clients/editres) under gdb, I get the `slightly
wrong' text you can see in ~yandros/tmp/editres.xwd. If I use this
client to try to connect (Get Widget Tree) to either the normal xload
or the xcalc from the x11r5 locker
(/mit/x11/build/sun4/clients/xcalc), editres gets a segv in _doprnt:

I didn't follow it any farther than this. A coredump of editres is
available in ~yandros/tmp/core.editres.sun4. Please let me know once
you've copied these someplace reliable (~yandros/tmp is in the zone
cell).
I just asked Calvin to try this on hodge (DS3100), and it seemed to
work fine for him, so if you still can't make this happen, I'll try to
reproduce it in person...
