a) The panic takes place in sl_softc
b) Is there a crash dump?
c) Does it happen on different subnets?
d) Does it happen with a 74 kernel on the machine?
If so, try using the old nipsrv?
e) Has anyone looked at nip the requests using netwatch? (yes I have a
version which works on DECstations).
f) Has anyone tried using the old versin of nipsrv on aa 7.6 kernel?
I still think that this is caused by something sending out a flood of
nip requests (what I don't know) causing the machine to panic.
If someone can first test to see if the 7.4 kernpanic or not, we might
eliminate many of the questions....
In my mind, if you can show it is not anything dealing with the network
configuration, so much the better. (i.e. can you show that the problem
really was introduced in 7.6 and not something else?)
If it was introduced in 7.6 things that changed from 7.4:
nipsrv: code was modified for the sun port.
afs code in the bsd kernel was changed.
The other kernel changes have been (that could have any effect)
vaxscsi/scsi_disk.c - bug fix to allow rzdisk to work on
the vax (so you can scan for bad blocks...)
So - does anyone have some info?
