Hi! We received the following report in olc from Roger Roach:

I updated my workstation with the latest release of Athena last week and
I've noted a problem which seems new. That is, about 10% of the times that
I try to incorporate my mail (I use xmh), the system will lockup for as long
as 2 minutes. The load goes from about .25 to 3+. Eventually it unlocks and
displays my mail. This never happened before. Was there a change in this
area that would have this effect? I use a DECstation 3100.

I may be wrong in blaming xmh for my problems. It just happened again when
I was moving some files around (small files on my local disk). The system
locked up for a few minutes. I went to another window and did a "top". It
showed mwm using 85% of the CPU for about 2 minutes. Eventually it finished
and my move completed. This is very strange and only started when I installed
the latest release. Any ideas?

Other people (consultants and users) have noticed that there has been
a slowness problem with the public DECstations as well.
Any ideas on what might be causing this, or how to fix it?
