this is more like a bug report
i was opening an xterm. between the time i issued the command
and the time it took for the xterm to pop up, i clicked one of the
dash options. then the machine got hung and is unresponsive until some 4
minutes later, when the xterm finally pops up
this has happened to me twice already

Processor: VAX 3100
Display : Monochrome VAXstation
Memory : 0x652800 user; 0x7e3000 (8 M) total
