So I was examining the Gnome user's dotfiles, and I found the bug that
was producing the "you may only run one window manager" error. For
some reason, /mit/aui/usr/athena/lib/init/xsession was configured to
try to start a window manager before gnome-session. But gnome-session
wants to start the window manager itself.
This problem was also apparently inducing some bad hang time for
startup; on an Ultra 5, the login time for the standard Gnome user to
an officially "tolerable" speed of about 25 seconds. Yay! It also
has many visual things happening, so it psychologically seems quite
fast, at least compared to the pre-fix sequence.
For some reason, CVS doesn't seem to know about this file, so I wasn't
able to check in my changes. Is the /mit/aui/usr tree not CVS'd, or
am I just smoking crack?
