There are 183 accounts with ~/.athena_dash_interface. I think that's
a small enough number that we should just send them mail, and not
bother including anything in the startup scripts that checks for
~/.athena_dash_interface and annoys the user via zenity.

Unless there are any objections, I plan on sending the following e-
mail out in the next 2 weeks. Feel free to suggest edits to the text.

Subject: Changes to Athena Graphical Login Environment

Dear _________

During IAP, Information Services & Technology will release the newest
version of Athena: Athena 10. Athena 10 will be noticeably different
from previous releases of Athena, and many legacy features of Athena
have been removed, including the "Athena Dashboard" ("Dash")
environment.

When Athena 9.0 was released in June 2001, the Dash interface was
replaced with a new GNOME-based interface. At the time, users could
configure their account to continue using Dash, and your account is in
this category. The Dash interface will no longer be available in
Athena 10, and users will instead see a GNOME-like interface. We
apologize for any inconvenience.

No action is required on your part for this change to take effect --
the intent of this e-mail is to inform you of this upcoming change to
Athena. This change only applies to Athena 10 machines -- if you use
any Athena 9.4 (or earlier) machine, you will still be able to use the
Dash interface. Athena 9.4 will remain the default version in the
public Athena clusters through the summer of 2009.

For more information on Athena 10, please see http://athena10.mit.edu

Sincerely,
