At the moment, we are punting the problem to the underlying OS install.
If you configure a static IP address during the OS install then you
probably also configure a mit.edu hostname and you're set.
Assuming we later have a unified installer which knows about MITnet, it
will presumably set up mit.edu as the search path for static IP
addresses.
