Testing revealed a number of problems with my package changes, which
I've fixed today. All of the printing packages can now coexist, and I
can successfully run both "lpq" (CUPS) and "mit-lpq" (lprng).
I noticed that nil is not listed by cups.mit.edu, which may be an
oversight, but it raises the more general issue of private printers.
I'm currently thinking maybe we want a mechanism to add additional
browsing servers based on clusterinfo, but I'm going to defer the
implementation of any such plan until after the fall preview release.
aptitude will remove debathena-lprng-no-server-config automatically
because it's no longer needed. That's sufficient for me, so I'm not
going to add any provide/conflicts declarations to get rid of it
explicitly.
It may make sense to move the printing packages from Recommends to
Depends in debathena-clients.
After this is deployed to SIPB Debathena, the installer script should
probably stop asking questions about printing support.
I am now done with printing work until I find out about further
problems that need to be addressed for a preview release. I'm sure
there are some but I'm not going to go looking.
