Hi everyone -
On April 18, 2009, we will be ending support for Debathena on Ubuntu
7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake. If you are using Debathena
on either of these two Ubuntu versions, we encourage you to upgrade to
a later version before April 18.
We are ending the support period for Debathena on Gutsy at the same time
as Ubuntu ends support of Gutsy. Upgrading from a release after its end
of life is painful, so if you are using Ubuntu Gutsy in any capacity,
you should upgrade now.
While Ubuntu will continue to support Dapper for another 2 months on
desktops and 2 years on servers, we are choosing to end Debathena
support early. Dapper is the oldest release that we currently support by
almost a year, and it is showing its age. It lacks many features which
have made Debathena development easy, and in some cases, possible.
Furthermore, it is our belief that nobody has installed or used
Debathena on Dapper for over 6 months.
For both Dapper and Gutsy, Ubuntu only supports direct upgrades to
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Hardy Heron. Instructions for that process are available
at <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades>. If you would like
to upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid, you should first upgrade to Hardy
and then upgrade to Intrepid.
Please note: upgrading from one Ubuntu release to another can cause
Debathena to get disabled in your apt configuration. After upgrading
from one release to another, be sure to follow the directions at
<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/oyRB> to re-enable Debathena.
As always feel free to contact the Debathena team at debathena@mit.edu
if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Thanks,
- Evan
