Andrew, most of what you are saying is accurate, and true. But we
have other considerations, like maintainable code and user support.
It would be nice to have arbitrary formatting, but the implementation
overhead may not be worth it. I also don't like having zwrite
dependent on zwgc. Some level of this is necessary. Mark Eichin
chose scribe-like commands. I kept that. We have a de facto
standard. I think changing that may be more trouble than it's worth.
As things stand, it is still a markup language. The behavior of @bold
is user-defined.
