Hello,
We have been running zephyr/zwrite for the past 3 years on Solaris 2.51
and liked it so much, when we upgraded to 2.6 it was a must have for my
colleagues and I. After installing on Solaris 2.6 and configuring, I
was not able to get xzwrite to stay up for more than 30 minutes, we get
a memory error and it dies (no cores, just dies). This problem was not
pursued as only a couple of people use xzwrite while the remainder of us
use the regular zwrite in x mode.
The more important issue for us is the use of colors when sending
windowgrams/zwrites. When it comes to colors in normal zwrite, we get
mixed results. For a day or two, all colors work, after this, one color
may work and then a day later, no colors work (only black text). When a
particular color fails, an error is received like the following "zwgc:
Error in XAllocColor on "whatever color": using default color.
I suspect a problem in the xlib's but am uncertain as to how I can prove
the issue. I have searched out on
your site and can find nothing. I have reviewed the man pages on
XAllocColor and have found nothing here
I felt would help. I have been able to run xcolor (to see if I could
get a full spectrum of colors-which I do)
and am able to even run this on terminals which a minute before gave the
error mentioned above. I am wondering if
perhaps there is a resource limit to the number of X user that the
library can support? We have 60 users on zwrite at a given time and all
have different results with color usage.
I spoke with the original folks who implemented zephyr on the 2.51 box
here at our site and they mentioned that I may need to staticlly compile
on a 2.51 box and copy all files over to 2.6 box and run in backward
compatible mode (as if I had a clue!). I did initially attempt to copy
the files from 2.51 to 2.6 and found it MUCH easier to simplely
re-install...for what it is worth.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. If this is not
something you can assist me with, perhaps you could point me in the
right direction?
Thanks Much in Advance, Mike
