t r u t h o u t | After spending fours years, earning two degrees and paying $50,000 for a college education, I am one of a slew of American graduates trying to stay above water and pay back student loans.
Since graduating and before I joined Truthout, I worked my way through a handful of internships, all of them unpaid, all more about bleeding free labor than allowing me to be intellectually engaged. In the meantime, I've waited tables and served drinks - working in the service sector, one of the few areas thriving in our floundering economy.
This is why I can honestly say that the best part of my post-graduate experience so far has been my time working for Truthout. More than a platform for independent journalism, it is a hub for journalists, activists and citizens genuinely interested in creating a dialogue. It is place where everyone from servers and temp workers to teachers and business persons can develop a language for the social and political realities that affect us all.
Working with Truthout has made me feel a part of something vital and relevant.
