What's the format for the subject line for the email gateway?

Hi there. I sent a message through the gateway of the form:
Subject: blah blah blah blah (Log 99999)
and it created a brand-new log. I think that it shouldn't have. Is it a
requirement that you have to do this:
Subject: Log 99999: blah blah blah blah
Please advise/fix/etc.
