Can we disable F7?

I have spent my morning trying to rescue people from the unsavable log
status that occurs when they use the F7 Date/Time stamp. Since we know of
a workaround - click in blank Add Entry field and press Enter to get a date
time stamp - can we disable the F7 key?
Also, there is something a little odd going on with carriage returns in
logs. Sometimes they are getting converted to verticle lines, one line per
carriage return. This leaves the text all bunched together with these ugly
graphic characters separating things. Also if you look at the same log from
one NT machine it will look fine and from another NT machine will do this
ugly vertical line thing. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
