Dear Valued Customer
Next month, Scopus Technology releases Scopus Series 5, our latest
software edition incorporating significant product enhancements. You
will automatically receive the Scopus Series 5 Upgrader for those
modules you are entitled to use under your support agreement. This
letter summarizes the major highlights of our newest release,
end-of-life support transition for our older software, and the tools
available to help you migrate.
The highlights of this major release are:
Added Functionality
Scopus Series 5 is a major application release resulting in enhanced
user interface, workflow, and functionality of existing applications. We
have added new base functionality to our enterprise application suite
including an enhanced assignment engine, task wizard, contracts and
entitlements to name just a few. Additionally, we revamped the user
interface for better workflow and usability.
Distributed Component Architecture (DCA)
Scopus Series 5 continues a tradition of technological firsts, raising
the bar for enterprise client/server applications. DCA is a fourth
generation, multi-tiered architecture that significantly extends
scalability in an infrastructure. Built on industry standard middleware
(DCOM and CORBA), Scopus Series 5 DCA is highly extensible, facilitating
rapid development and integration to other business-critical systems.
The two-tiered architecture continues to be provided along with the
multi-tiered architecture.
Java-Enabled Applications
Scopus Series 5 Java Client allows applications to be launched from a
Java-enabled browser, turning every Scopus customer care solution into
an Intranet or Internet application. The result is a suite of remarkably
light and location independent customer care applications. Key benefits
include flexibility, security, and lower cost of ownership.
New Applications
Significant enhancements have been added to our existing suite of
applications. ServiceTEAM encompasses Call Handling, Field Service
Scheduling, Dispatch and Tracking, Entitlements and Repair Depot
Management, and focuses on customers providing superior customer support
through their field service organizations. It is available as a separate
purchase.
New Modules
Scopus Series 5 includes new optional "Modules" that are installed with
certain applications, enabling specific functionality. The Contracts
Module allows the storing and tracking of service level agreements. In
addition, we are releasing two new Modules that can be purchased
separately. SmartScript is a "call guide" capability, where call agents
use a fully scripted guide providing answers to customer questions. The
Order Entry / Billing Module extends traditional call center capability
allowing the call agent to capture RMA, Purchase Order, Sales Order as a
part of the call. This enables organizations to process orders
efficiently without accessing an ERP system.
Supported Platforms
The supported client platforms are:
* Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
* Microsoft Windows 95
* Apple Macintosh OS 7.5
* SGI Irix 6.2, Sun Solaris 2.5.1, HP-UX 10.x, and Microsoft NT

With the release of Scopus Series 5, Scopus Support begins the
end-of-life support transition for Scopus Software 3.6.1 and prior
releases. Effective February 2, 1998, Scopus Software 3.6.1 and prior
releases become unsupported. Please keep in mind that with Scopus' next
major release, 3.6.2.1. will begin the end-of-life support transition.
Some of the Scopus Series 5 features can be achieved by a binary upgrade
while some require additional customization. To help you determine your
upgrade path, we are creating a white paper called the Scopus Series 5
Upgrade Notes. It will be available in the customer section of the Web.
Scopus provides many additional services available to help you with your
migration. All Scopus Series 5 documentation is available online with
Scopedia. Educational Services will offer Scopus Series 5 courses
beginning in October, including new courses entitled "Series 5 New
Features" and "Series 5 Migration". Professional Services have
consultants skilled in the Scopus Series 5 release, as well as many new
system integrator partners ready to assist in your migration efforts.
Please contact your local sales office or visit our website
