Hi Steve:

This is the way the issue breaks down right now:

- Our QA group reports that there are only minor problems with the
Scopus 3.6.2.1 Macintosh client using a V2 connection, but to a very
significant degree, the client was found to be usable.

- Testing on our end involved SQL*Net 2.0, rather than SQL*Net 2.1. We
have ordered a CD of Oracle client software for Macintosh that includes
SQL*Net 2.1, so that we can undertake a second round of QA using the
newer connection library. I expect to see the CD by the end of the
week.

- In response to your previous question regarding specialized Mac
clients for Oracle vs. Sybase, you were correct. The executable for
Oracle and Sybase are not the same, and will only connect to the RDBMS
for which it was written and compiled.

- I'm still awaiting the results of your system profile. Point your
browser to the following URL and pick up the Apple System Profiler
1.0.1.sea.hqx if you don't have Now Profiler, Conflict Catcher or a
similar utility:

ftp://ftp.info.apple.com/Apple.Support.Area/Apple_SW_Updates/US/Macintos
h/Utilities/

- We will be downloading the executable that you received from our FTP
site to see if it's usable, just to make sure that something didn't go
wrong when you got it from our site. The chance of the problems you're
seeing stemming from an FTP failure isn't too likely, since you probably
wouldn't even get a dialog box, but we're committed to checking even the
unlikely causes.

- Since System software and formatting can be major areas of concern
with Macintoshes in general, we may need to have you set up a PowerMac
test machine from scratch, with the following characteristics:

o Reformatted hard drive
o Absolutely fresh installation of System 7.5.5
o Oracle SQL*Net components
o Scopus client software
o Absolutely nothing else on the drive, and all non-essential
INITs/CDEVs unloaded

For more details, you can see TANs 750-753 on the Scopus web site. I
wouldn't prepare the test machine just yet.

- For our testing, we used the Oracle Client Software V7.0 Macintosh
dated 6/28/95 (Oracle ID # A34603-1), from which we applied:
>
>o SQL*Net 2.0.15.0.0D
>o SQL*Net TCP/IP Client 1.5.6.1.10
>o TCP/IP Protocol Adaptor 2.0.15.0.1A
>o Required Support Files 7.0.16.3.0A
o Utilities 7.0.12.0.3

Please let us know where the files we applied differed from the files in
use at your site. It would also be helpful to find out the exact name
and ID number of the CD you used.

I'll continue to serve as your primary technical contact and let you
know how things develop from our end. Please let me know the answers to
our questions as soon as possible.
