At today's tooltime meeting, I mentioned that I would send some info on
query tools. This information is from the warehouse (Mary Weisse) team.
(Thanks Mary!)

---------------
The only tool that we have selected to date is Brio Query. This does not
mean that it is the only tool that will be supported but currently it is
the tool of choice. We have selected it for the following reasons:
* It runs on multiple platforms:
Windows NT, 95, 3.x
Mac (PowerMac only with SNS support)
UNIX Motif: Sun SPARC with SunOS 4.1.3 or later or Solaris 2.4 or
later OR Sun
Solaris Intel (x86) OR IBM RS/6000 computer running AIX 3.2 or later
* It works with SNS enabled on all platforms (The only tool we have found)
* It is simple enough for a true end user and robust enough for a more
sophisticated user.
* Seems to be the query tool used most by corporations and universities.
* Does not require the additional meta data structures that many tools do.
* Support for most database platforms used here at the Institute.
We are currently investigating pricing!
We are also looking at the following tools:
* MSQuery: This tool comes with Excel and will be available on most
desktops. Currently works on Windows with SNS enabled. PowerMac with SNS
capabilities should be available in the next release.
* InfoMaker: Integrates easily with PowerBuilder applications. Currently
works on Windows with SNS enabled. PowerMac with SNS capabilities should be
available in the next release.
