Steve,
A quick update on TEAM-USA....
The machine was unpacked and put in place Monday afternoon, power and net
drop wires were run. Vanni and I spent yesterday afternoon doing the
initial hardware setup consisting of: installing the memory cards, fiber
Sbus card, disk drives, and locating and installing a spare CD-ROM drive
[one didn't come with the system]. Unlike other vendors, Sun ships parts
and expects self-installation.
The remainder of the afternoon and early evening was spent installing
Solaris 2.4 - the actual software installation is easy and relatively quick.
We ran into the infamous "Memory Aligment Error" and wound up starting over
from scratch, including moving some hardware components around. As of last
night, the initial system s/w was installed, configured, and the machine was
on the network. Only one disk [system] is configured at this time.
The remaining work is to configure the RAID software drivers and disk array
and then we're pretty much set for database installation. Since we're
installing an older version of Solaris [2.4], we have to downgrade the RAID
s/w drivers which takes extra time.
I expect this phase of the machine setup to be completed by the end of today
[Wed].
