The Company I work for is about to adopt SAP.... As a software developer
I was wondering about how to get read only access to the data stored in
SAP from a external system developed with MS SQL Server and VB5? At this
point I do not even know if it is possible.
I have read SAP's marketing documentation and noticed that using its
native programming language, a interface could be developed that
contains VB5 created ActiveX controls.
The question is. Could a VB front end be developed that contains OLE
calls to the SAP client object or applications server objects? And has
this ever been done? Does SAP AG provide help in this regard? Or, is
everything a closed book?
Further, is it possible to get access to the data that resides on the
SAP server via a DataBase Gateway or ODBC? I realize that SAP contains
8000 or so tables, most of which is Meta-Data. But is there some way to
get to the real thing?
