You're right about that one, but it is even with a single platform depending
on the supplier of your (hardware) platform.

Right again.

I think (and we feel) this is the main reason to choose for Intel NT.

In my firm (a Dutch watercompany) we've installed SAP on IBM 704 Intel
servers with NT (4.0) as operating software platform. Although we've had a
few problems with the hardware (mainly coupling up the servers through a
specific controller to our mainframe of which we are using the tape-robot as
a backup device), everything is now in working order. And we are preparing
to go live on Januari the 5th 1998 (it's the first working day in the new
year).

Although a complete IBM (mainframe)environment we didn't choose to go to
Unix (and RS/6000) because of the foreseen (predicted ?) growth of NT and
decline of Unix. We think we've made the right decision for the
server-platform now and in the foreseable future and that this decision is
giving us the possibility to grow with our SAP-implementation even if we are
going to use IS-U (SAP's Information System - Utilities).
