SAP R/3 will run Windows NT and a large number of UNIX systems (HP-UX, AIX,
OSF/1, SunOS, Dynix/PTX, DG-UX, etc) and OS/400.

There are a variety of databases Informix, Oracle, Adabas, MS-SQL, DB/2.

Not all databases are supported on all Operating Systems. You will have to
decide on a hardware platform. That will dictate what O/S you will run,
and that will allow you to chose from supported databases.

Choosing hardware, O/S and database is not a trivial task. There are major
performance issues that need to be addressed at the Operating system level,
database level, and the SAP level.
