Not sure what you mean by setting off platform and backend and database.
Did you mean a heterogeneous environment, consisting of hardware from
multiple vendors running different operating systems? If so, it is
supported. In fact, as a temporary measure, some implementations have
used Unix DB servers with NT app servers, with the idea in mind of
migrating to NT OS once scalability, etc., were there. On the other
hand, this multiplies your maintenance skill-set requirements, and is,
from an operational level, not exactly seamless. Maybe if you provided
more info on what you're looking to do?
