It depends on the company. For small reports some "ABAP newbies" might 
suffice, but if the company plans bigger projects they won't hire 
unexperienced people.

There also is a training course directly from SAP, formerly it's name 
was BC400, but afaik SAP courses are expensive (in my former firm I had 
it, but not the normal way so it was cheaper for the firm).
