Hi Joe,

I've seen a bit of the intro R/3 3.0 material but haven't had
much hands on yet.

I was under the impression that the distributed database stuff is
still under development in a project called OPS (Oracle Parallel
Servers) undertaken by SAP, Oracle and IBM.

In release 3.0, a concept called ALE (Application Link Enabling)
is starting to come into play whereby customers use distributed
R/3 systems rather than distributed databases, and the ALE
technology keeps everything in sync by a series of complex
business rules (which will vary between customers). This way
different releases of R/3 systems will be able to co-exist as one
logical business system.

I know this description is a bit light on, sorry.

Regards, Scott Barden.
