SAP Career Entry Path

Is there a standard or common entry path into the SAP technical or
functional support and consulting fields? Do any Universities in the
U.S. teach SAP or is there a particular academic course of study that is
recommended for persons wanting to enter the SAP field. What about
proprietary training courses? Where do SAP professionals gain their
entry level experience? Every recruiting advertisement I've seen on the
'net or elsewhere for SAP professionals specifies experience, often 2-3+
years and never less than 6 months.

I guess I can see why SAP people get paid so well, there are very few
certified and most recruiting seems to be one company poaching from another.
