If you are looking for a book on SAP programming I would suggest:
 "Introduction to ABAP/4 Programming for SAP", Prima Publishing

It was written by Gareth Debruyn and myself and is intended to teach programmers what they need
to know to get up to speed with SAP and ABAP. Also it is a reference guide for more advanced
programming techniques such as BDC sessions, Function Groups, and Logical Databases.  

We have been consulting in the area of SAP for several years now and wrote this book because we
were frustrated by the lack of SAP resources available today.
