SUBJECT: NORTHEAST COASTAL AND MARINE CAREER EXPO

Dear Academic Advisors, Professionals, Students, and other interested parties:
WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE! The University of Rhode Island is planning the
first annual Northeast Coastal and Marine Career Expo, to be held on April
3rd at the University's Kingston Campus. The purpose of the EXPO is to
provide an effective forum for students, recent alumni and other
professionals to gain access to government agencies, non-governmental
organizations (NGOs), and most importantly the private sector in their
pursuit of a coastal or marine oriented career.
As the Program Coordinator, I have personally contacted over 300 federal
and state agencies, NGOs, private sector firms, and specialized graduate
programs from various universities and colleges located in New England, New
York and New Jersey. The information in this letter is also being directed
to over 110 universities in New England, New York and New Jersey. We are
contacting University Career Service Administrators, Academic Vice-Presidents,
department chairs and respective school newspapers to inform students and
alumni of this event. Career fields to be represented at this EXPO are
not restricted to those occurring solely in a coastal or marine environment.
We anticipate excellent attendance on the part of the organizations
contacted. The strength of our appeal, topically, is to be able to provide
students from all over the Northeast with the opportunity to contact many
diverse professionals in pursuit of 1) career information, 2) internship, and
3) job opportunities. We need your help to make sure that this event is
brought to the attention of your student body, especially those with a
coastal and marine interest. IF YOUR PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION WOULD BE
INTERESTED IN ASSISTING IN THIS EFFORT, please contact me via the addresses
below.
The URI Department of Marine Affairs (Undergraduate Association), the
University of Rhode Island, and Private Sector Contributors are sponsoring
this event. Participating organizations will provide information or
advice for the students in accomplishing their career goals. Regarding
employment opportunities, this EXPO will provide a setting for students and
alumni to make contact with prospective employees. Arrangements have been
made to reserve facilities for interviews, as well as conducting resume and
career workshops. On behalf of the University of Rhode Island, I appreciate
your assistance in this effort.

include (but are not limited to):

ZOOLOGY OCEAN/ENVIRONMENTAL/CIVIL ENGINEERING
Pre-Admission Registration to this one day event is $25.00 for students with
a valid University I.D. Alumni, and all other individuals will be charged
$30.00. Registration on the day of this event will be $35.00 and $40.00,
respectively. Registration materials will be available shortly.
Lunch accommodations will be available through our dining services or local
