For anyone interested in the current state of research on the next
version of S, there is an overview available via WWW or ftp. From
WWW, use the URL (in Mosaic, "Open URL" under the File menu):
ftp://netlib.att.com/netlib/att/stat/doc/95/1.ps.Z
From ftp, login as anonymous to netlib.att.com, and then:
cd netlib/att/stat/doc/95
get 1.ps.Z
This document is used as a starting point for our beta-test sites, so it
refers once or twice to things you don't have, but otherwise I hope it is
readable on its own.
Suggestions are welcome. Things are settling down and the final
version won't look radically different from the description in the
overview, but there is still room for good ideas (and thanks to those
who have made suggestions so far).
While you're browsing on WWW, I recommend the Home Page for the Bell
Labs statistics group (designed by Mark Hansen and Allan Wilks) to
find out about us and what we do. A pretty picture of Murray Hill and
lots of pointers to interesting things.
