I chatted with Bruce and Miki today to get a sense of where we are with
the Project Database.

Miki has found a fair amount of superfluous complexity in the
implementation of the PL/SQL routines. She is taking a pragmatic
approach: simplify as needed, but avoid time-consuming rewrites or
redesigns.

The primary issue we have identified is this: Diane assumed that
certain pages and PL/SQL routines would only be viewed in a specific
order. Authentication takes place in a sort of baroque sequence. There
was no enforcement of her assumption. When we go live with version 1,
the functionality will WORK, but there may be some holes that we have
not found. A simpler security architecture was briefly discussed by
Miki and myself, but Miki said it would be too much work to re-architect
and to ship out on time.

The work required here is to make sure that the minimum required
functionality actually works by Feb 15.

Bruce has been working on the User Interface, and the web display
aspects of the system. He is fully up to speed in understanding how to
make changes, and how to isolate faults when he finds them.

The work that Miki and Bruce have done has not yet reached critical mass
of what I would offer to ILEAD as "try this out" level of goodness. But
I expect it will in a few more days time.

We are all still working towards the goal of "Good enough to do basic
project tracking with" in mid February.
