Bob and I discussed some of what we would like to present to the project
leaders on 6/18. This is an expanded set of notes from that discussion.
First, a rough timeline of the rollout:
6/8-13 Miki does modifications
6/14-16 people look at prototype
6/17-18 corrections
6/18 project team leaders presentation
6/19-22 project DB shutdown for switchover
6/23 New Project DB up and running
The test system is http://gypsy.mit.edu/fcgi-bin/brlfcgi/brlpdb/index.html
(also available via http://gypsy.mit.edu/ )
During the 6/14-16 period, we should let itlt know how to access the test
system.
A major change is the shift to notebooks for the project leaders. Please
look at the templates (http://web.mit.edu/pm/projpage.html).
One issue is training for ITLT and project leaders. At this point, I'm
recommending that the directors simply send email to project-db, and one of
us provide one-on-one coaching. Project leaders should probably be
encouraged to do the same.
Bob asked that we check whether the ADD button is consistent in the new
system. Every page should allow the directors to add a new project (e.g., I
think the page you get when you do a search doesn't have an ADD button. I'm
guessing that the individual process pages also may not have ADD buttons --
I think they were just search results.)
If someone wants to add a new performing organization, they should send
email to project-db.
Bob was wondering whether we should think about putting the project-db
contents into the project warehouse. He suggested we talk to Scott and/or
Mary about this, and that it is pretty easy to do, allowing people to do
brio query retrievals. We agreed that this was a long-term change, not
something for 6/18.
