I have just added the following text to the pdb-howto.html page which I
think provides some useful additional information related to getting and
using your MIT Certificate.
Note: obtaining an MIT certificate is more onerous a task right now
than we would ideally like. You are sent through many dialog boxes
to learn about certificates, and to make various tradeoffs of
security as you configure your certificate and your browser. The
good news is that after this is done, you have an MIT certificate
which will be useful for more than just the project database as time
goes on, and you will not need to go through this process very often.
Suggestion: After you have a certificate, go to the "Security
Preferences" item on the "Options" menu. In the "Personal
Certificates" folder select your Massachusetts Institute of
Technology ID, i.e. the certificate you just got, as your default.
If you do this, you will be interrupted with FAR fewer alert boxes
as you use the projects database. (It is our hope that this stuff
gets streamlined over time, but that is Netscape's action item. We
have no control over it here.)
