Hi Bill,

Just as a "head's up", I'm working with the database services 
folks to find out what Oracle 8 issues I/S will be facing.
I was just taking a quick look at the OCI header files on
an Alpha (OSF/1), and while it looks to me like Oracle has
included included the necessary bits for backwards compatibility,
there are a *lot* of changes in those headers.  If the Project
Database still makes use of OCI, at some point you may want
to have somebody see what is involved in re-building the
Project Database code under Oracle 8 on Solaris to see what
might break.

As a further FYI, even without migrating to Oracle 8, the
Project Database server might break under Oracle 7.x on the
newer Solaris boxes we are buying; some of the datatypes and
buffer sizes used by OCI are different on 64-bit processors.

Of course, of the Project Database no longer depends on
OCI, you can ignore all of this and achieve true peace 
of mind.  :-)
