Minutes of DCE Business workgroup meeting held November 1, 1994

* 25 people attended

* Maryanne Hondo/HP Chelmsford gave a short presentation on
  a single signon project underway in the Security working group.

  The goal of the project is to produce 3 documents:

  (1) a roadmap that defines the single signon landscape and
      DCE's role within it
  (2) an architecture/API --- this to be published as 2 RFCs,
      user and admin
  (3) a compendium of end-user requirements

  The Security workgroup is meeting on Thursday, November 3rd during
  SuperSIG week.

  Send input and feedback to hondo@apollo.hp.com.

* John Raleigh/OSF gave an update on OSF Educational services.
  DCE 1.1 Admin, API, and Internals courses are in progress;
  work-in-progress courses are scheduled beginning this month.
  DCE 1.1 Features/Functionality course is complete.

  For information contact jr@osf.org.

  John agreed to publish training statistics, e.g. number of people
  trained, vs time, by industry, by geography, etc.

* Kristin Knotts/OSF gave an update on the services offered
  by OSF in support of the consumers of OSF technology. A similar
  set of services will continued to be offered under the new PST structure
  for DCE 1.2.

* 1995 calendar of events
  - DCE Developer's Conferences
    - run by DCI
    - dates not yet final, but soon
    - LONDON - April
    - SAN JOSE - May
    - BOSTON - August
  - Decorum '95 - SAN DIEGO - February
  - Members Meeting - BOSTON - May
  - Uniforum - DALLAS - March
  - Unix Expo - NEW YORK - September
  - SuperSIG -  BOSTON - November
  - User Group meetings in many US cities
  - OSF-sponsored seminars in several US and non-US cities

* Cooperative marketing initiative
  - The DCE 1.2 PST has allocated a small amount of funding for marketing
    events (e.g. Uniforum and Unix Expo). OSF has called a meeting for
    Wed. Nov 2nd to discuss the potential for other joint marketing
    projects in 1995. Questions/input to Joe Maloney/OSF and
    Jack Dwyer/OSF.

* DCE Demo
  - The need for a new DCE demo was discussed. There was no clear
    consensus on whether to stay with the current DDP, to improve DDP,
    or to create an entirely new demo. This will be one of the topics at
    the cooperative marketing meeting on Nov 2nd.

* Business workgroup
  - The consensus was that the group should continue to meet
  - Anyone interested in being chair/co-chair should throw their hat
    in the ring immediately --- contact brink@transarc.com or
    donovan@apollo.hp.com.
  - The composition of the workgroup was discussed --- it was observed
    that to be effective we need more participation by ISVs in particular.
