         OSF CUSTOMER SERVICE NEWSLETTER
********************************************************

Welcome to the fifth edition of the Open Software
Foundation's Customer Service Newsletter. This
electronic bulletin is sent to you on a bi-monthly basis
and contains synopses of the latest events in OSF's
Educational, Professional and Systems Engineering
organizations. Also included are the public training
schedules for both OSF and its Business Partners
worldwide.

All telephone numbers and addresses for OSF Customer
Service personnel are listed on the last page of the
Newsletter.

OSF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
*******************************************************
DCE Application Development and Implementation Service

OSF ProfessionaL Services delivers OSF DCE application
development to customers either as an initial proof-of-
concept or full-scale deployment of production-quality
DCE solutions. DCE development can take place at the
customer site or here at OSF (or both) with access to
OSF via the Internet.

Although DCE development can be more complex than
standard COBOL or C development, it still follows an
analysis and design approach but with emphasis on Rapid
Application Development (RAD) for end-users. To this
end, this service is intended to jump start development
of DCE applications for customers wanting to take
advantage of DCE's unique set of integrated
capabilities.

Both proof-of-concept and mission-critical applications
are designed and built quickly using the best available
client/server tools (which OSF can help specify) in
conjunction with DCE. Customers can choose to have
these DCE applications developed as self-contained
solutions or they can have them fully integrated into
their existing environments in conjunction with
relational data base and OLTP components.

These DCE applications can run in virtually any
client/server configuration ranging from Windows PC
clients to MVS servers. OSF will work with the
customer to develop robust and reliable applications to
address business requirements. OSF can either co-develop
these applications with the customer or build them to
the customer's specifications.

For further information, please contact Tom Klejna, OSF
Professional Services.

DCE REMOTE APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT LABORATORY SERVICES

OSF Professional Services is pleased to be able to offer
remote DCE laboratory services to companies developing,
testing, and evaluating DCE applications. OSF Systems
Engineering maintains a modern heterogeneous computing
environment running some of the latest vendor
implementations of OSF's DCE technology. Use of the DCE
lab is the perfect complement to OSF's consulting and
training services as an aid to accelerating DCE
application deployment. Lab services are available as
part of custom Professional Services contracts. Unique
laboratory configurations can be quoted as an optional
service.

Remote Application Development Service Description
 ---------------------------------------------------

This service includes Wide Area Network (WAN) access to
a heterogeneous, DCE engineering environment (comprised
of a variety vendor platforms, DCE implementations and
products). This engineering environment, which includes
a testing facility, is designed to enable software
engineers and application developers to work
interactively with OSF's seasoned engineering resources
to diagnose DCE-related products' interoperability,
to test newly developed DCE applications on a variety of
platforms and to test existing DCE applications on new
releases of DCE. OSF will work with each customer to
schedule access to the lab resources and support custom
lab configurations.

Objectives of Service
 ----------------------------
The remote laboratory service supports a variety of
customer objectives, including but not limited to:

 - the rapid development and testing of DCE applications

 - the simulation of heterogeneous computing
environments for application and tools testing

 - system testing or diagnostics of a participating
   vendor's product(s) or prototype(s)

 - application testing on new or different vendor
   releases of DCE

For further information, please contact Tom Klejna, OSF
Professional Services.

OSF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES IN EUROPE
********************************************************

From our Brussels office, the OSF Europe Professional
Services group reviews IT strategy and architecture,
supports the set-up of DCE cells and prototypes, and
provides advice on the design of distributed
applications. The group is actively involved in several
large DCE pilot projects, mainly in the financial and
telecom arena. To this end, we are providing consulting
services with emphasis on security and distributed
management issues.

For more information on the European Professional
Service offerings, contact Yair Melamud, Director of
Customer Services, Europe.

Please note that when exporting DCE you must comply with
all applicable laws, rules, and regulations relating to
the export or re-export of technical data.
