** NEW FINANCIAL SERVICES SIG HAS BEEN PROPOSED **
Household International would like to host a special
interest group (SIG) meeting for financial service
members only on Wednesday, November 2, during SuperSIG
Week. The focus of this initial meeting will deal with
financial service concerns that pertain to pursuing open
architectures. Promotion of various OSF development
efforts will also be addressed at this meeting.
"We strongly believe that cost effective open systems
initiatives will only succeed if we as customers combine
our requirements and use our purchasing power as a
catalyst," said Edward F. Sterba, Director of
Applications Systems at Household International.
"We feel that OSF's Distributed Computing Environment
(DCE) would allow us to monitor and administer our vast
network from a single control point," said Kenneth M.
Harvey, Vice President of Enterprise Systems at
Household International. "Further, we also believe that
distributed services and management are critical
components of a successful client/server deployment."
Household International is a holding company that
controls several lines of business within financial
services. Within each of their core businesses
(Banking, Consumer Finance, Credit Cards, Insurance and
Commercial Finance), they have a relatively homogeneous
structure.
