We New Hampshirites call the House the General Court. The AP says:
Precise numbers always are difficult with the 400-member House because
of high turnover, vacancies from deaths and resignations and
legislators winning more than one party's nomination. Some recounts
also are likely.
But results compiled by The Associated Press indicate that about 20
incumbent House Democrats lost Tuesday compared to only one
Republican. Overall, Republicans picked up about 30 seats when open
seats are factored in.
Before the election, Republicans had 259 seats, Democrats 136,
Libertarians four and independents, one. That division allocates 10
vacant seats to the party that last held them.
The preliminary breakdown Wednesday was 284 Republicans, 114
Democrats, no independents and two Libertarians.
