	         "A Libertarian's Guide to Athena"

MIT Libertarians has several electronic resources available for use
by all of our members. This guide should get you started in using them.

1) E-Mail - We stay in touch by e-mail, we plan by e-mail, we LIVE by
e-mail. If you don't know how to use it, take a mini-course
and learn it! Our E-mail traffic is carried out on several lists:

libertarians@mit.edu - general list for planning, debate, news
                items and electronic meetings.
libertarians-announce@mit.edu - ANNOUNCEMENTS ONLY list to keep
you up to date on events. Restricted traffic.
libertarians-officers@mit.edu - To send ideas, votes, responses
plans, or anything else to all of the current officers
		of MIT Libertarians.
libertarians-request@mit.edu - Send mail to this address to be
added dropped from any of the lists. DO NOT SEND REQUESTS
		TO ANY OTHER LIST!!

You can send add/drops via simple mail commands, or via the Web
page (see "Using the Web" below).

2) Using the Web - The World Wide Web (or WWW) is a network of information
linked throughout the world. It is fast becoming THE way of finding
your way around the (should I say it?) "information superhighway."
The program to access this all is called: Mosaic. Mosaic is a program
that lets you talk to other info providers worldwide, browse the
text, pictures, and special documents at other sites (and at MIT)
and use "hypertext" (click on the words) links to do it all. There
is much more information on the WWW than we care to go into, but there
are two basic ways to get to us:

	a) Use our idiot proof command - At the athena prompt simply type:
		add libertarians
		liberty

and you will find yourself at the libertarians home page. From
there it should be self explanatory.

	b) Use Mosaic normally - People who have accessed Mosaic (say to
read the Freshman Fishwrap or to find/make their own home
pages) will find us linked to the "Student Activities" page from
both MIT's and SIPB's home pages, or may use the "open" command
	   and enter the following URL:
		http://www.mit.edu:8001/activities/libertarians/home.html

However you do it, be sure to check it out. This is the premier
way to access all the on-line libraries of files we have. There
is everything from "The City of Cambridge" to "How to Pick Locks"
	if you look for it.

3) Our Locker - we have a file locker on Athena. The best way to browse
it's contents is through Mosaic, but if you want to bypass all of
that, you can access it through simple unix commands as well.
Simply type at any athena prompt:
		add libertarians
		cd /mit/libertarians

and you will be there. From there, look at the directories and
files at will (all are read only).

4) Zepher Messages - Zepher is the program that sends all those little
messages in white boxes to your screen allowing you to either
communicate or annoy (as the case may be) your friends who are
logged in to athena at the moment. There is an application for
this program called a "class" that allows you to send your
"zwrite" message to everyone in that class. This can be used
to conduct on-line meetings or discussions from all over campus
just from your individual terminals. To see what's going on in
the "libertarians" class you have to add yourself to the class.

         A) To add permanently type:
		zctl add libertarians \* \*
To drop permanently (until you add it again):
		zctl delete libertarians \* \*

	 B) To add just for this session:
		zctl sub libertarians \* \*
To drop just for this session:
		zctl unsub libertarians \* \*

	C) To talk to anyone reading the class "libertarians" just type:
		zwrite -c libertarians

So there it is, four steps to a greater life on athena. The next time
someone throws an argument your way and you want to find the facts, take
a browse through the stuff we've got on-line. Even if you're not a
computer buff, it's the best way to keep in touch, stay active, and
be informed. Good Luck!
