Meeting Minutes 22 Apr 93

Thu Apr 22 15:14:18 1993

Date: Thu, 22 Apr 93 15:13:44 -0400
From: Mark Rosenstein <mar@MIT.EDU>
To: layered-athena@Athena.MIT.EDU

This meeting was poorly attended, but we did work through some useful
discussion about support structures.

Status report: design doc is done, forum is scheduled for this Tuesday
27 Apr 93 at 3pm in E40-382. We made it past the third party software
policy question. We can move forward with the development, and just
have to make sure that the policy issue has been addressed before we
deploy anything.

The Private Workstation document is currently in revision. Kevin
didn't remember if the mkserv documentation was still part of that
document, or in a separate document. We should do something similar
for Layered Athena.

We also need to plan publicity for Layered Athena when we're ready to
release it.

Another way of looking at Layered Athena is that it isn't a product at
all, but is an installer for the Athena release.

We had a lengthy discussion about support and how a user finds out
what's wrong when something doesn't work because a necessary subset is
not loaded on their workstation.  This discussion was inconclusive;
Kevin will write up more clearly what his concerns are.
Maybe we should move the OLC client from the help subset into the
	basic services subset.

Maybe we shold put a sticker physically on each workstation saying
	where to call for help.

Idea: the Athena login screen should have a workstation status message
indicating if it is a public workstation, private workstation, what
	subsets are loaded, etc.

Don't forget the forum on Tuesday.

The next team meeting is next week, 29 Apr 93 at 10am in E40-316. We
will address who should handle help calls about Layered Athena.
