This brings up a good point that I hadn't really thought about... namely,
what will be the interaction between "layering athena" and the current
release mechanisms? My initial reaction is that our "first pass"
implementation probably shouldn't interact with ongoing releases (and
since we aren't worrying about public clients initially, this sounds
reasonably sane), but that the "second pass" might deal fully
with updating issues.
