The other thing is to have the all the .o's end up in one directory and import the sources, i.e.: isode_error.o: ../error_tables/isode_error.c ... I would guess you can make an Imake rule that knows how to deal with these sorts of things so Imake can generate them from your SRCS list or something like that.
