OK, these patches have been applied. As I mentioned to you, I've
ditched the BITS32/BITS16/BITS64 #defines, and am relying exclusively on
autoconf's SIZEOF_INT/SIZEOF_LONG/SIZEOF_SHORT definitions. It
simplifies the #define's quite a bit.
